The National Federation of Cypriots in the United Kingdom notes with anxiety the Prime Minister’s apparent intention to meet with Mr Mehmet Ali Talat, leader of the Turkish Cypriot community in Cyprus, during the latter’s visit to London later this month, and is concerned that such a meeting might be construed by some

Federation President, Mr Peter Droussiotis, met on 25th November 2009 with Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain at the latter’s offices at Thyateira House, central London, to discuss matters of mutual interest.

The meeting, which lasted more than an hour, was held in a very cordial atmosphere and enabled the President of the Federation to inform his Eminence about the organisation’s work both in relation to Cyprus and, also, the UK Cypriot community.

British Cypriots yesterday demonstrated outside the Turkish Embassy in London in opposition to Turkey’s continuing military occupation of northern Cyprus. The action marked the 26th anniversary of the illegal unilateral declaration of independence by the occupation regime in northern Cyprus.  

British Cypriots at the Conservative Party‘s annual conference in Manchester were last night assured of the party’s commitment to the delivery of a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem.
